Season Subscription 2013

In 2013 Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Victoria is excited to be presenting another wonderful musical comedy The Geisha, as part of our 2013 subscription season following on from the enormous successes of The Arcadians and A Country Girl. In addition to this rare chance to see and hear a milestone work of early musical comedy, you can indulge your love of Gilbert and Sullivan with The Pirates of Penzance and Princess Ida

Pirates is one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular pieces and Princess Ida one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s forgotten gems

For The Pirates of Penzance director Diana Burleigh and musical director Christopher Stock will bring you a delightful new production, complete with childrens' activities on the first matinee. There are five performances at the Alexander Theatre in April and May. Uniquely, this production opens its run in Stawell on April 20th

For The Geisha, director, choreographer and designer Robert Ray and a wonderful cast bring eight performances in July at Knox Community Arts Centre, one performance in August at Paramoor Winery and six performances in September at the Malvern Theatre.

In October at the Alexander Theatre in a new production directed by Ron Pidcock and musical director Alan Barker, five perfomances of Princess Ida will be presented with sparkle and with grace, highlighting the wonderful music and uniquely contemporary story line.

As one of Australia’s oldest performing groups and one of two performing arts groups in Victoria specialising in the works of Gilbert and Sullivan and other works of English musical theatre, Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Victoria’s 2013 season promises to be one of the best yet.
